Milwaukee LCLAA

Milwaukee LCLAA

Who are we, and what is our mission?

Milwaukee LCLAA is an organization affiliated with the AFL-CIO, the national labor federation. We are a group of primarily Latino volunteers who strengthen the labor and progressive social movements through the promotion of diversity and activism. As a focus, we work to invite and encourage more participation by Latinos in labor unions. At the same time, we try to educate and mobilize unionists to make their unions more attractive to Latino workers, and thus to workers of all cultures and backgrounds.

What activities do LCLAA volunteers do in the Milwaukee area?

  • We provide individual bilingual assistance and referrals for workers experiencing problems in the workplace.

  • We provide bilingual assistance to unions so they can better communicate with Spanish speaking workers through translation of labor agreements and publications, and interpretation for events and meetings for union representation.

  • Through rallies, forums, marches and other events, we support and advocate for comprehensive immigration reform and other issues of special importance to the Latino community.

  • We conduct monthly bilingual educational workshops on important labor topics to assist in the development of Latino union leadership.

  • We conduct outreach to Latino workers on the right to join unions and how to participate in union activities.

  • We advocate with politicians to create and support bills addressing the needs of the Latino workers.

  • We conduct free ESL classes.

  • We provide free trainings in Spanish on industrial skills
